Oppo says it’s not giving up on foldables

A sketchy rumor last week – and, for what it’s worth, we warned you about its sketchiness from the start – claimed that Oppo and Vivo would exit the foldable market entirely in 2023 due to significantly lower sales.

It seemed like a strange move, especially after pouring so much money into foldable technology, but – stranger things have happened in the mobile world.

This, however, does not. Being, that is. At least when it comes to Oppo. The company reached out to us to deny the aforementioned rumors and assured us that its commitment to future foldable development has not changed in any way. This is good news and cause for us to breathe a sigh of relief.

While Oppo itself hasn’t had much success in the foldable space in the developed world, the OnePlus Open (of course a rebranded Oppo Find N3 for the global market) is, by many accounts, the biggest book-style foldable to date. 2023, so we will be very sad to see Oppo go. Now we don’t need to, and can wait for OnePlus Open 2 and N4 Flip.
